HONOLULU – HUGS (Help Understanding & Group Support), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Hawaii’s families with seriously ill children, was selected by Neiman Marcus Honolulu at the charity recipient for their annual Breakfast with Santa event.

HUGS families were treated to a delicious spread of breakfast favorites at Mariposa restaurant this morning, as they enjoyed a musical performance by the Shooting Stars of Diamond Head Theatre, signing and dancing to Christmas favorites like Santa Clause is Coming to Town and All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth.

The highlight was when Santa himself made an appearance as families were called up one at a time to take a portrait with Santa and received Christmas presents for each child family member. The toys were graciously provided by Neiman Marcus staff from the toy drive they held for HUGS.

The event was HUGS’ first Holiday in-person sit-down family event since the start of the pandemic. “We are so grateful to Neiman Marcus for giving us the chance to finally have a “normal” outing for Christmas,” said a HUGS mom. “Our daughter was so excited to meet Santa in-person and her happiness is the best Christmas present I could ever asked for.”

“Since the pandemic began, most of our in-person events had to be cancelled and held virtually instead,” said Joan Naguwa, HUGS Executive Director. “So we feel very fortunate for HUGS to have been selected by Neiman Marcus out of the other great local charities. It will really make it a memorable Christmas for our HUGS families.”
