HONOLULU – HUGS (Help Understanding & Group Support), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Hawaii’s families with seriously ill children, is proud to announce the remarkable success of its first-ever school supply drive with Honolulu Federal Credit Union (HOCU). Thanks to the incredible support and contributions from HOCU’s members, staff, and local community, they positively impacted the lives of hundreds of HUGS kids as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

From May 1 to July 3, the campaign garnered an overwhelming response as donations poured in at all HOCU branches. The outpouring of support resulted in the collection of over 12 boxes of essential school supplies. This heartwarming response showcased the unwavering commitment of HOCU's membership and the wider community to empower students with the tools they need to excel academically.

"We are very grateful for the unwavering support from our membership and the community, making this school supply drive a great success," said Ross Inouye, Senior Vice President at HOCU. "Their contributions have equipped local children with the tools they need to excel academically and create a brighter future for themselves and their families."

Hundreds of HUGS kids will benefit from these supplies, ensuring they are well-prepared for the upcoming school year in August. The impact of this drive goes beyond the tangible items donated; it reflects the unwavering support and compassion that binds the local community together. HOCU also held a toy drive for HUGS in 2022.
