HONOLULU, HI – HUGS (Help, Understanding & Group Support) announced it has received $24,000 from First Hawaiian Bank (FHB), as part of the bank’s annual Kokua Mai employee giving campaign. The funds will benefit HUGS’ peer support programs to assist Hawaii families as they care for a seriously ill child.

“We are extremely grateful to First Hawaiian Bank and their employees for their generous donation,” said HUGS Executive Director Maureen Purington. “The donations enable us to continue to deliver the emotional and financial support our families need as they care for a seriously ill child and ensures they won’t have to face their journey alone.”

HUGS peer support programs are tailored for each member of the family, and include monthly Mom’s and Dad’s Nights, monthly Respites for HUGS kids and their siblings, and monthly family events/dinners. All programs and services are provided at no cost to our families.

“HUGS provides critical support to families when they need it most,” said Mike Tottori, Executive Vice President at First Hawaiian Bank and HUGS board member. “This donation reflects our employees’ commitment to supporting organizations that care for families in our community.”

Founded in 1982, HUGS is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen Hawaii’s families and improve their quality of life as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.
