HONOLULU – HUGS (Help Understanding & Group Support), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Hawaii’s families with seriously ill children, will be hosted by the Honolulu Elks Club Lodge 616 for their inaugural paddle out for HUGS.
60+ HUGS family members will be attending the event which will be held at the Honolulu Elks Lodge located at 2933 Kalakaua Avenue, and will enjoy some fun in the sun as they get paddled out on canoes and give our HUGS kids the chance to experience paddling. There will also be live entertainment, and lunch and crafts provided by the Elks Lodge. “Our youth committee and canoe committee Kumulokahi are especially thrilled to support HUGS with care and aloha,” said Shelley Hee, Elks 616 Kumulokahi Canoe Committee Chairperson.
HUGS holds family events for HUGS families monthly, which gives the chance for families who are caring for a seriously ill child to meet other families who are facing similar challenges for peer support and to let know them that they are not alone. HUGS families are not charged for any of HUGS’ programs and services and relies on the support from the local community for funding and sponsorship.
